Best of all, it's totally free to download and play as a mod. All you need to be able to play it is a copy of StarCraft 2. You can even use the free Starter Edition if you'd rather not purchase the game.

Project lead karlprojektorinski took to SC2 Mapster with the latest version of the StarCraft: Mass Recall. Its latest iteration brings plenty of niceties, like 59 maps from Brood War as well as others that were lost over the years.

With Blizzard having ceased development on StarCraft 2 as it works on new iterations of the series, this is a great stopgap. StarCraft has been around for a decade, and it's well-loved by the community.

Blizzard actually released a remastered version of the original game as StarCraft: Remastered three years ago. But seeing the whole game and more remade in StarCraft 2 is truly something to behold. If you've been looking to get into the series, this is a great place to start.

StarCraft Brood War

These are the UMS maps I created for Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft Brood War which I consider worth playing. I made a lot more UMS maps, but these are the most promising ones:

Random Bunker Def

A defense map based on Slot TD. You place Bunkers that contain a random amount of Marines, Firebats or Ghosts. You obtain bonus resources, when you obtain at least three equal units within the Bunker.

4 game modes with different amounts of lives.

2-7 players

Poker Temple

A defense map based on Tourmenteur's Poker TD. You play Draw Poker for your towers and attempt to survive longer than the other players.

2 game modes: standard and reverse where place the tower after knowing its strength.

2-4 players

StarCraft Maul

A defense map based on the popular Maul defense maps in WC3. You place your immobile units in your area using an observer and a transport-menu.

3-5 players

Kaiser (German)

A map localized in German. You are royal and attempt to become the Kaiser by destroying your rivals. Each royal has his own city that he manages and fortifies and they maintain an army and a hero that they control indirectly.

Barracks are the economy of your town as it generates swordsmen, archers or income.

Random events occur like mercenaries approaching your city offering their help for a few coins, bandits attempting to pillage your town, the pope visiting your city or you slowly become a Vampire.
