The Sims 4 Play With Life promo is two minutes and 25 seconds long and shows several Sims fans as they talk about what they like about the series. They also talk about all of the strange things and storylines that the series offers.
One player reveals that she made a clone of herself and got pregnant with her sister’s husband. Another black Sims player said that she had been bullied and discriminated against at school because of her ethnicity but her character in the game made her more comfortable with herself. A transgender man also said that The Sims allowed him to explore who he was and to be himself.
The Sims 4 is one of the most inclusive games available. When EA worked with GLAAD to remove gender restrictions from Create a Sim, The Sims 4 became one of few games to officially support transgender and non-binary characters.
The game has also added LGBTQ Pride items which were added as EA worked with the It Gets Better project. The Sims series also added same-sex marriage long before it was legal in the United States, and is one of few series to offer same-sex romances.
The game hasn’t always gotten it right with race, however. Black players of The Sims 4 have criticized the game for a lack of textured hair options and for makeup that doesn’t look right on darker skinned Sims. However, the promo shows that EA sees how important it is to make people feel included and it may do something to address that.
